Trump Issues Warning to Iran Over Attacks on US Maritime Forces

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump warned that Iran would face extremely severe consequences if it attacks American naval vessels operating in the Strait of Hormuz, according to remarks shared during a Fox News interview on Monday.

He reportedly stated that Iran would be “blown off the face of the Earth” if it targeted US ships involved in operations under what Washington has described as “Project Freedom,” a mission aimed at securing maritime traffic in the region.

A Fox News reporter said Trump referenced a recent conversation in which he was briefed on US efforts to escort commercial vessels through the strategic waterway, alongside a renewed warning directed at Tehran regarding potential attacks on American forces.

Earlier statements from US Central Command (CENTCOM) indicated that Navy guided-missile destroyers are currently deployed in the Gulf after passing through the Strait of Hormuz, as part of ongoing efforts to ensure freedom of navigation for commercial shipping.

Trump also suggested that Iran’s position in the current tensions appears more flexible compared to the past, while emphasizing continued US military readiness in the region.

He said US forces are equipped with advanced weapons systems and maintain a widespread global presence, adding that these assets could be used if necessary.

Separately, in a social media post, Trump referred to incidents involving maritime traffic, including an attack affecting a South Korean cargo vessel. He suggested that broader international participation in securing shipping lanes may be needed, stating:
“Perhaps it’s time for South Korea to come and join the mission,"

He added that apart from the incident involving the vessel, no additional damage had been reported in the Strait of Hormuz, according to his remarks.
