Fatal Car Attack in Leipzig Leaves Multiple Victims

(MENAFN) A deadly incident unfolded on Monday in Leipzig, where a vehicle drove into a group of pedestrians, resulting in fatalities and several injuries, according to reports citing authorities.

Officials indicated that the suspect is a 33-year-old German man. Armin Schuster described the individual as “He is a rampaging attacker,” while emphasizing the nature of the act.

Authorities, including Claudia Laube, confirmed that the case is being handled as a deliberate rampage, with no evidence suggesting alternative explanations or the involvement of additional suspects.

At least two individuals lost their lives, while several others sustained injuries when the car struck pedestrians in the eastern German city.

The suspect reportedly surrendered peacefully at the scene. Rene Demmler stated, “We apprehended the suspect inside the vehicle,” confirming that the arrest was made without resistance.

Reports also indicated that a collision occurred before the vehicle eventually came to a halt. Among the injured, three people were said to be in serious condition.

According to accounts, the suspect was already known to law enforcement.

Witnesses reported that the car was moving at high speed along Grimmaische Strasse, a busy commercial street, before hitting pedestrians. In response, police secured areas around Augustusplatz and nearby parts of the city center while emergency teams assisted victims and managed the situation.
