UAE Reports Interception of Missiles, Drones from Iran

(MENAFN) The United Arab Emirates said its air defense systems intercepted a major wave of incoming projectiles from Iran on Monday, marking the first such incident since a ceasefire framework took effect between Tehran and Washington on April 8, according to official statements.

The UAE Defense Ministry reported that its forces engaged a total of 15 missiles and four drones, including 12 ballistic missiles and three cruise missiles, as well as unmanned aerial vehicles. Authorities said the attack resulted in three people sustaining moderate injuries.

Officials added that since the start of the escalation on Feb. 28, Emirati air defenses have intercepted hundreds of incoming threats, including 578 missiles and 2,260 drones. They also stated that the cumulative toll of the attacks has reached 13 fatalities and 227 injuries.

Earlier on Monday, a fire erupted at the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone on the UAE’s eastern coast after it was struck by a drone reportedly launched from Iran. Local authorities said three Indian nationals were injured and taken to hospital for treatment.

The developments come amid sustained regional instability following earlier US and Israeli strikes on Iran in late February, which triggered retaliatory actions across the region and increased pressure on Gulf security systems.

A ceasefire agreement was previously established through mediation efforts in early April, but subsequent talks failed to produce a lasting settlement. The arrangement was later extended without a fixed timeline, according to reports.

Meanwhile, maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz remains tense, with continued concerns over shipping routes and broader regional escalation affecting energy infrastructure and civilian safety.
