China Denounces Israel’s New Illegal Settlements in West Bank

(MENAFN) China condemned Israel's latest illegal settlement developments and newly implemented regulations designed to tighten grip on the occupied West Bank, state-run media reported Thursday.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian characterized Gaza and the West Bank as "inseparable" components of Palestinian territory, emphasizing that a two-state framework represents the core pathway toward resolving the Palestinian crisis, media reported.

"China has consistently opposed the construction of new settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory and all attempts to annex or encroach upon Palestinian territory and to undermine the political foundation of the two-state solution," Lin told journalists in Beijing.

He stressed that Gaza's present conditions remain extremely precarious, urging all involved parties to avoid measures that could amplify disputes and trigger further escalation.

Lin's statements followed Sunday's approval by Israel's Security Cabinet of directives aimed at expanding unlawful settlement construction and bolstering Tel Aviv's authority over the occupied West Bank.

Israeli media outlets indicate the resolutions encompass revoking legislation that prohibited land transactions in the West Bank to illegal Israeli settlers, opening sealed property ownership documentation, and transferring construction permitting powers in a settlement zone near Hebron from a Palestinian municipal body to Israel's civil administration.
