Gold Mine Accident Claims Seven Lives in China
A deadly incident at the Canzhuang gold mine in Zhaoyuan, located in eastern China's Shandong province, left seven workers dead Saturday morning, officials confirmed Monday. The tragedy unfolded in a mine shaft at approximately 8:50 a.m. local time (0050 GMT), according to the city's emergency management department, as reported by state media.
Investigators are now pursuing a dual-track inquiry examining not only what triggered the fatal accident but also claims that officials may have concealed the incident from the public.
In a separate disaster occurring the same day, an industrial blast tore through a biotechnology manufacturing facility in northern Shanxi province, leaving a minimum of eight workers dead.
The back-to-back industrial tragedies underscore ongoing workplace safety concerns in China's mining and manufacturing sectors, where fatal accidents continue despite government promises to strengthen oversight and enforcement protocols.
