FIDE Files Complaint Against Vladimir Kramnik

(MENAFN) The International Chess Federation (FIDE) lodged an official grievance on Tuesday targeting former World Champion Vladimir Kramnik due to his repeated public claims of cheating against two fellow grandmasters.

The submission, directed to FIDE’s Ethics & Disciplinary Commission, identifies Kramnik as the respondent and points to a recurring pattern of behavior spanning approximately two years involving American GM Daniel Naroditsky and Czech GM David Navara.

Naroditsky, who won the 2013 World Junior Championship and was also a chess commentator, passed away at the age of 29 on Oct. 20; the circumstances surrounding his death have not been revealed.

Kramnik had previously accused Naroditsky of cheating last year and persisted in expressing his suspicions on social media, although Naroditsky had denied these claims.

According to FIDE, the complaint focuses on potential breaches relating to harassment and “the insulting of an individual’s dignity.”

In a statement, Yolander Persaud, chairwoman of the commission, explained that if the complaint is accepted, Kramnik will be given up to three weeks to submit a response.

Following a review of all evidence, the panel will deliberate and issue a ruling, which may include sanctions.
