Iraq Denounces Killings of Civilians in Sudan
(MENAFN) Iraq’s Foreign Ministry on Saturday issued a forceful denunciation of the recent wave of attacks and civilian deaths in El Fasher, the capital of Sudan’s North Darfur State.
In an official statement, the ministry condemned the violence and “rejected any attempts to destabilize Sudan or infringe upon its sovereignty,” cautioning against moves that could lead to the geographical or political fragmentation of the country.
The statement reaffirmed Iraq’s stance in favor of peaceful resolution, voicing full support for “adopting the path of dialogue as a means to solve problems, renounce violence, and resort to the peaceful track.”
Tensions in Sudan escalated sharply after the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced Sunday that it had captured the headquarters of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in the embattled city of El Fasher — a development widely viewed as a critical shift in the nation’s two-and-a-half-year civil war.
According to Sudanese officials cited Wednesday, more than 2,000 civilians have been killed since RSF forces took control of the city, deepening fears of an expanding humanitarian catastrophe.
