Argentina’s unemployment rate climbs to highest in four years
This figure comes from the agency’s Permanent Household Survey, which covers 31 urban centers with a combined population of 29.8 million people.
Within these areas, roughly 1.1 million individuals in the workforce were without jobs, indicating an estimated total of about 1.7 million unemployed throughout Argentina.
At the same time, the employment rate was recorded at 44.4 percent during the first quarter, equating to approximately 13.3 million employed persons.
Looking at regional data, the Greater Buenos Aires region — including the city and its neighboring districts — reported an unemployment rate of 9.1 percent.
When excluding the city itself, the surrounding districts alone showed a higher rate of 9.7 percent, the highest in the nation. This area hosts Argentina’s primary industrial zone.
The Pampas region, known for its agricultural production, had the country’s second-highest unemployment rate at 7.4 percent, the agency noted.
