Democrats Slam Trump’s Strikes on Iran as Unconstitutional
Top Republican figures in Congress, including House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune, expressed approval in separate remarks, describing the military strike as a crucial measure to curb Iran’s nuclear weapon ambitions.
Conversely, prominent Democrats, who were informed only moments before Trump publicly announced the attacks, condemned the president’s unilateral action.
U.S. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries sharply criticized the president, stating that Trump “failed to seek congressional authorization for the use of military force and risks American entanglement in a potentially disastrous war in the Middle East.”
Jeffries emphasized in his statement that the president “shoulders complete and total responsibility for any adverse consequences that flow from his unilateral military action.”
Meanwhile, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer demanded “clear answers” from Trump about the strikes and called for the enforcement of the War Powers Act, a law designed to restrict the president’s ability to engage in extended military conflicts abroad without Congressional approval.
