Belgium Sees Emergence of Far-Right Party Named After Trump
The party, officially called Trump — an acronym for Tous Reunis pour l'Union des Mouvements Populistes ("All United for the Union of Populist Movements") — is described by its leaders as a continuation of the recently disbanded Chez Nous movement and, more broadly, the country’s former National Front.
The creation of the party was initially reported by a media outlet.
Salvatore Nicotra, who previously chaired the National Front, is leading the new organization.
Its executive board also includes Emanuele Licari, formerly on the electoral list of the Flemish far-right party Vlaams Belang in Brussels, until he was removed for openly “glorifying” fascism.
Nicotra explained that the decision to name the party after Trump was deliberate. “Donald Trump is the symbol of populism. He immediately shows what we stand for,” he told the media outlet.
Characterizing the movement as a “right-wing populist party with a social dimension,” Nicotra stated that roughly 40% of the party’s platform mirrors the Workers’ Party of Belgium (PTB), another 40% aligns with Vlaams Belang, while the remaining 20% represents policies unique to the new group.
In contrast to Vlaams Belang, which supports Flemish separatism, Nicotra emphasized that the Trump party advocates a unified vision of Belgium.
The Trump party plans to participate in the 2029 federal and European elections and is also contemplating presenting candidates for regional and municipal contests.
