Seven Dead as Tornado Batters Brazil's Parana

(MENAFN) The fatality count from devastating tornadoes that tore through Brazil's southern Parana state last Friday has climbed to seven after a 70-year-old man succumbed to his injuries, state health authorities announced Tuesday.

Six victims perished in Rio Bonito do Iguacu, while one additional death occurred in adjacent Guarapuava, according to the state's health ministry.

The area experienced no fewer than three extraordinary twisters, with one obliterating Rio Bonito do Iguacu—a community home to approximately 14,000 people—where an estimated 90 percent of structures sustained damage.

Medical facilities continue treating 20 hospitalized individuals, health officials confirmed. Provincial administrators are maintaining healthcare assistance across impacted zones, delivering critical supplies including serums, bandages, syringes and compresses.

Fire department personnel reported zero missing persons cases, noting that operations have pivoted toward reestablishing vital infrastructure including water and electrical systems, while guaranteeing food and potable water reach survivors.
